Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Pilot UV Unit Testing

Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Pilot UV Unit Testing

SPONSOR:
Trojan Technologies, Inc.

PROJECT PERIOD:
02/01/07 - 01/31/09 (Phase IV)

ABSTRACT:
The primary objectives of the UV disinfection pilot tests are to assess the feasibility of the UV disinfection and establish the appropriate design parameters for a full-scale UV disinfection facility to achieve the required enterococci standards at Sand Island. The enterococci standards are 18,000 per 100 mL, based on a daily maximum. The results of the pilot tests will be used to design the full-scale UV disinfection facility.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

Specific Objectives of the pilot tests include:

Phase 1- To develop UV dose-response relationship for UV disinfection under various influent conditions and to verify the pilot system can achieve the necessary target dose and disinfection level.

Phase 2- To assess the UV lamp fouling rates, required frequency of cleaning and cleaning wiper efficiency.
